Homemade Fishing Bait for Bluegill & Rock Bass

Homemade Fishing Bait for Bluegill & Rock Bass
Bluegill and rock bass are often referred to as panfish because of their small size and ability to fit easily in a frying pan. A favorite of anglers, these small fish put up a good fight when hooked. Many anglers prefer to make their own bait at home for attracting and catching blue gill and rock bass. A variety of ingredients can be combined to produce a productive bait.

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Mixing bowl
  • Canned biscuit dough
  • Garlic salt
  • Anise oil
  • Plastic storage container
Step 1
Place a medium-size mixing bowl on a sturdy work surface. Open a can of biscuit dough and place all of the dough into the bowl. Kneed the individual biscuits into one ball of dough with your hands.
Step 2
Form a hole in the center of the dough and add 1 tbsp. garlic salt and several drops of anise oil to the dough. Adjust the amount of anise oil you use based on personal preference.
Step 3
Kneed the dough with your hands to thoroughly incorporate the garlic salt and anise oil. Wear plastic gloves if necessary as anise oil has a strong licorice aroma.
Step 4
Pinch small amounts of dough and roll them into small balls or separate the dough into 3 to 4 inch larger dough balls. Form small bites for quick access when fishing or use a larger ball of dough and form the bites while fishing. Bites should be formed to be no larger than a kernel of corn.
Step 5
Place the dough in a plastic storage bag or container and store in a cool location until ready for use.
