Home Recipe for Fishing Bait

Home Recipe for Fishing BaitSave money and bait your line bait balls by using a home recipe. Like any good fishing bait, you want bait that will lure large fish such as the catfish or carp. Home recipe bait provides the added benefit of requiring ingredients that are easily accessible in the home, such as water and garlic power. These offer a potent flavor and scent for hungry fish. Try your home recipe bait in freshwater or saltwater for superior strikes.

Difficulty: Easy

How to:

Things You’ll Need:
  • Measuring cups
  • Mixing bowl
  • Wheaties
  • Tap water
  • Ground hamburger meat
  • Garlic powder
Step 1
Combine 1 to 2 cups of Wheaties cereal with 1/4 cup tap water. Mix in a mixing bowl that has a weight capacity of at least 64 ounces. Mash up the ingredients by hand and continue until the Wheaties soften.
Step 2
Create a firm ball out of the mixture. Loosen the mix with a teaspoon of water if the Wheaties shows signs of dryness.
Step 3
Shape ground hamburger meat into a firm ball; equal in size to the ball you made in Step 2.
Step 4
Mash the cereal ball together with the ground hamburger ball to form a larger ball from the two smaller balls.
Step 5
Add a pinch of garlic powder. Roll the large single ball around in circles to evenly distribute the garlic powder.
Step 6
Wrap the homemade bait balls in a stocking, such as worn by women. Use this tip if fishing the bottom or dragging your line over weedy areas where large catfish and carp may dwell. If not, place the homemade bait balls inside a clean plastic container and store until you reach your fishing site. Bait your hook with the bait balls as usual.

Tips & Warnings
