How do I Make Easy Homemade Fishing Bait?

How do I Make Easy Homemade Fishing Bait?
Bait your line with homemade bait balls. The recipe requires four common household ingredients and is easy to rig onto a fishing hook. Using Wheaties and hamburger meat, you can attract large fish, including catfish and carp. Work the bait balls in freshwater and saltwater applications, and alternate between bait ball size to attract different size fish. Bait balls are sturdy and hold up well under the force of the current. Once you drop your line, you can rest assured that your bait will not drop off before a strike.

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Measuring cups
  • Wheaties
  • Water
  • Hamburger
  • Garlic powder
  • Spoon
Step 1
Pour 1 to 2 cups of Wheaties into a mixing bowl. Add a 1/4 cup of water. Mix thoroughly by hand until the Wheaties soften and you can form firm balls. Add an additional teaspoon of water, if necessary, to moisten the mixture and prevent drying.
Step 2
Form a firm ball out of hamburger meat. These should be the same size as the ones made from the Wheaties.
Step 3
Form a larger ball from the two smaller balls. Top with a pinch of garlic powder. Continue shaping the large single ball.
Step 4
Store bait balls inside a clean plastic container. Keep inside an iced cooler until you reach your fishing site.

Tips & Warnings

Make only as many bait balls as you need to avoid spoilage.
