How to Properly Set the Drag on the Abu Garcia Revo Baitcaster Reel
The name Abu Garcia is often synonymous with great fishing for many anglers. Throughout the years, Abu Garcia has produced many reels that have helped pave the way for the modern reels we have today. One such reel currently produced by Abu Garcia is the Revo. Touted as a "Revo-lution" by the company, the reel is made of light weight aluminum, features a low profile, nine stainless steel bearings and is available for around $125. Adjusting and fishing with the Revo is designed to be no hassle as evidenced by the easy to set drag on the reel.

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Abu Garcie Revo reel with matched rod
  • Fishing line--monofilament, braid or fluorocarbon
  • Practice plug or lure
Step 1
Locate the star shape drag adjustment wheel on the side of the reel between the handle and the reel body. Familiarize yourself with the drag adjustment feature of the Revo reel. Turn the star-shaped wheel clockwise, or to the right, to tighten and turn counterclockwise to loosen.
Step 2
Turn the drag wheel counterclockwise until there is little to no drag engaged on the reel. Hold the fishing line past the end of the rod and pull with slight to moderate tension. Begin slowly turning the star drag wheel clockwise while you maintain tension on the line.
Step 3
Watch the line as you tighten the drag. When you begin to detect resistence on the line you are getting close to setting the drag. Continue turning the drag wheel until the rod tip begins to bend slightly.
Step 4
Adjust the drag further when you are fishing if necessary. The initial drag setting is a starting point and, based on the line size and species of fish, you may need to increase or decrease the drag.
