How to Make a Fishing Cart

How to Make a Fishing Cart
Common pier fishing gear such as rods, a cooler and tackle box are essential pieces of gear used by pier anglers. However, moving these items from your vehicle and out onto the pier can be challenging. Constructing a simple fishing cart is an easy project that can save you time and reduce frustration on your way to the pier.

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Hand truck
  • 2-inch-wide PVC pipe (two, at 8 inches long)
  • Zip ties
  • Bungee cords
  • Cooler
  • Tackle box
Step 1
Position a piece of PVC pipe 2 inches in diameter and 8 inches long onto one side of the hand truck. Determine a position on one of the side upright supports of the hand truck. Consider the length of the handle if it extends beyond the length of the PVC tube so that the rod handle does not contact the wheel of the hand truck.
Step 2
Secure the PVC tube to the upright of the hand truck with two or three zip ties. Repeat the process with another length of PVC tube on the opposite upright of the hand truck.
Step 3
Place a tackle box, if desired, on the support base of the hand truck. Position the back of the box so that it is securely against the upright supports of the hand truck. Secure the tackle box to the hand truck with a bungee cord.
Step 4
Set a cooler or other items needed for pier fishing on top of the tackle box. Use a bungee cord to secure the items to the uprights of the hand truck.
