How to Oil Abu Garcia Fishing Reels
An Abu Garcia reel requires regular maintenance to keep it functioning properly. It is important to maintain your fishing reel by lubricating it with oil to reduce friction and to prolong its life. With just a few tools and reel oil, lubricating your Abu Garcia reel is a simple task.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Screwdriver
  • Reel lube (Abu Garcia brand if available)
  • Adjustable wrench
Step 1
Unscrew the handle nut cover and put one drop of reel oil on the center shaft.
Step 2
Remove the handle nut with a wrench then pull out the handle and the star wheel.
Step 3
Place a drop of reel oil on the roller bearing.
Step 4
Loosen the screws to detach the entire handle side assembly.
Step 5
Pull the spool shaft out and place a drop of reel oil on the spool shaft's shorter side.
Step 6
Lubricate each spool bearing inside the end of the spool. Also place a drop on the side that is opposite to the handle.
Step 7
Remove the spool pinion to get through the bearing.
Step 8
Place another drop of oil on the cog gear and on the spool pinion's smaller gear.
Step 9
Squeeze another drop of oil on the reel's worm gear.
Step 10
Reassemble your lubricated Abu Garcia reel and replace all the screws. Remember to push the brake blocks toward the center of the spool.
