Screen Tent Assembly Instructions

Screen Tent Assembly Instructions
With more people venturing into the outdoors to enjoy the camping experience, screen tents have become a common sight. In fact, they have become an essential piece of gear for protection from the elements and bugs. There are many shapes and sizes of screened tents on the market, with some easier to assemble than others. Be sure to research the various styles, structure sturdiness and ease of assembly before settling on just one. These assembly instructions are for the basic octagon-designed screen tent, which are sturdy and easy to set-up.

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • Octagon screen tent
  • Roof poles
  • Leg poles
  • Gables
  • Hammer
Step 1
Remove the tent from its bag as well as the poles, gables and stakes. Separate the items into their own piles.
Step 2
Separate the roof poles from the leg poles and assemble them together. The roof poles snap together with elastic and are longer and thinner than the leg poles, with a total of three. The leg poles are thicker, with three poles placed together making one leg, totaling six legs when assembled.
Step 3
Unfold the screen tent and spread it out in the area where you intend on using it. Zip the doors closed, if they are open.
Step 4
Slip one assembled section of roof pole through one of the three sleeves located on the roof of the tent. Continue until the three roof poles are inserted into a sleeve and crisscrossing each other on the top center of the tent's roof.
Step 5
Place a gable on the end of each roof pole. There should be six gables, one for each pole end.
Step 6
Insert a leg pole into the opposite end of the gable and place the opposite end of the leg into the metal pin located directly on the bottom of the screen tent. This will hold the leg in place. Repeat this step on the opposite side of the tent and continue until all the legs are in place and tent is standing upright on its own.
Step 7
Clip the plastic clips located on the edge of the roof to the roof poles, as well as the clips located on the side seams to the leg poles. All clips should be located directly under each tent pole attached directly to the screen tent. These will keep the screen tent firmly in place attached to the poles.
Step 8
Straighten the screen tent out, pulling the sides outward until taut and stake in place.

Tips & Warnings

Always set up a screen tent with the doors closed. Staking the tent down with the doors open causes unwanted allowance in the tent's sides. You may not be able to zip the doors completely closed.
Screen tents that have the framework on the outside of the tent instead of on the inside, are easier to assemble and get standing upright.
