How to Install a Trunk Mount Bike Rack

How to Install a Trunk Mount Bike Rack
Trunk mount bike racks typically carry up to four bikes and attach temporarily to the trunk of your vehicle, without any permanent vehicle modification. Installation is quick and easy. No tools are required as the rack is installed with a combination of straps and support bars.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step 1
Place the rack onto the trunk of your vehicle. The upper support bars will rest on the top of the trunk lid, and the lower support bars will rest above or below the license plate, depending on your vehicle type. Instructions for your specific rack will tell you the optimal placement on your particular vehicle.
Step 2
Attach the hooks for the upper straps to the top edge of the trunk lid. Tighten the straps while holding the rack in position to prevent it from moving as you tighten. Exact placement of the hooks may vary from vehicle to vehicle, so consult the instructions that came with your rack.
Step 3
Attach the hooks for the lower straps to the bottom edge of the trunk lid. Tighten the straps securely. The rack should no longer be able to move up or down on the trunk lid.
Step 4
Attach the hooks for the side straps to the side edges of the trunk lid. Tighten the straps securely. The rack should be held securely in position and unable to move in any direction.
