How to Catch Catfish With Wooden Traps

How to Catch Catfish With Wooden Traps
There are several ways to catch catfish. Most use a rod and reel, but some people fish by hand (also called "noodling"). A way to catch multiple fish at once is to use a wooden trap. They are made with an entrance that gets smaller as the fish swims further in to it. Once inside, the catfish can't swim back out. It is best to check fishing regulations in your area to ensure that using such a device is legal.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • Rope
  • Wooden trap
  • Buoy
  • Bait

Step 1
Attach one end of a rope to the trap and the other to a buoy. This will show you where the trap is located when you go back to check it and allow you to haul it up easily.
Step 2
Place bait in the trap that will attract catfish. Typically this can be any bait you would use to fish for catfish, such as stinkbaits. You could also use cheese, chicken livers even dog food. Anything that will put a strong flavor in the water.
Step 3
Lower the trap into the water. Deep is better. Catfish tend to be at the bottom of lakes and ponds.
Step 4
Check the trap twice a day to ensure that the catfish don't die in the cage. Replace bait if needed.
