How to Apply for Fishing Licenses in Maryland
If you plan to do any fishing in the state of Maryland, you will need to obtain a fishing license. Maryland licenses are broken down into sport or ocean fishing and non-tidal or freshwater fishing. If you would like to do both, you will need to purchase both. Sport fishing licenses can be obtained for five days or an entire year. Non-tidal licenses can be obtained for three days, five days or an entire year. A separate trout stamp must be purchased if you are planning to fish for trout.

  • Identification such as a drivers license
  • Payment
Step 1
Get your information together. You will need documentation proving who you are and where you live. Items accepted include a drivers license or state ID, social security card, passport, visa or green card. You will also need a credit or debit card for payment.
Step 2
Make sure that your printer is working and that your Internet is connected.
Step 3
Go to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources web page.
Step 4
Select the license that you are wanting and follow the steps for purchase. Enter your ID information and payment method.
Step 5
Submit for payment and then print off your license. If your printer isn't working, you can go back to the site later and print it off as long as you write down the customer number provided to you. You have five days to re-print.

You can also purchase these licenses at local sporting goods stores and fishing supply shops. Call before you go to make sure they provide this service.
