How to Use Hot Dogs for Fish Bait

How to Use Hot Dogs for Fish Bait
Hot dogs are an economical choice for fish bait, and you won't have to hunt them down as you would nightcrawlers or other types of live bait. While you may be able to catch fish with plain hot dogs, soaking them in oil to increase the scent of the hot dogs may improve your chances. This is especially true if you are fishing for catfish, as they use their sense of smell to locate food.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Plastic storage bag
  • 4 cans of tuna packed in oil
Step 1
Cut one package of hot dogs into 1-inch segments.
Step 2
Place the hot dog pieces into a large plastic storage bag.
Step 3
Open four cans of tuna fish packed in oil.
Step 4
Carefully pour the oil from the tuna fish cans into the bags with the hot dogs. Do not add the tuna to the bags, just the oil.
Step 5
Refrigerate the oil-covered hot dogs overnight.
Step 6
Place one of the hot dog pieces on your hook and cast your line as you normally would.
