How to Hook a Banjo Minnow

How to Hook a Banjo Minnow
The Banjo Minnow was first introduced to the fishing market through infomercials and was marketed as the first fishing lure to act just like a live minnow. Since then, Banjo Minnows have proven very capable as fishing lures for all types of fish that prey on minnows. However, because they are lures, they require specific techniques designed to replicate the movements of minnows, and these techniques won't work if the banjo minnow is not properly hooked to the line.

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:
  • Banjo Minnow
  • Fishing line (8 lb. test or less)
  • Fishing hook
  • Two "O" rings
Step 1
Make sure the no-crimp hook holder is fastened firmly into the head of the minnow. It should already be attached to the minnow in the mouth part, but you will want to make sure it is screwed in all the way.
Step 2
Slide an "O" ring onto a fishing hook. Make sure the ring gets completely past the barb, if your hook has one.
Step 3
Thread the hook through the no-crimp holder until it meets the "O" ring.
Step 4
Place the second "O" ring on the hook on the other side of the no-crimp hook holder. This should also pass the barb and let the hook hang slightly loose from the hook holder. This wiggle room is important to let the Banjo Minnow move properly in the water, mimicking the movement of a real minnow.

Tips & Warnings

Don't use a fishing line greater than eight-pound test. The thickness of the line with disrupt the Banjo Minnow's movement.
