The Powerline Trail is a 10.5-mile trail through the interior mountain valleys, linking the north shore with the east side of the island. The trail is a red dirt road that follows powerlines through the forest reserve. This short hike starts at the trail’s northern access and follows the first mile of the muddy dirt road.
The trail travels above the Hanalei Valley, overlooking the river, Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge and the ocean beyond Hanalei Bay. Through openings in the lush foliage, waterfalls can be seen falling off faraway cliffs. For a strenuous all-day experience, this trail can be combined with the southern access route for a fantastic one-way shuttle hike.
