Parson’s Mountain Recreation Area, in Sumter National Forest, offers boating, swimming, fishing, and hiking, along with an excellent campground in a rustic and well-kept setting. One goal of the U.S. Forest Service is to manage our national forests for public recreation.
It is for this reason that areas like Parson’s Mountain are developed. Under the multiple-use concept, the Forest Service also manages lands for watershed protection, timber harvesting, and wildlife enhancement, among other things. Tent campers benefit greatly from the recreation component of the multiple-use concept.
