Galapagos Islands Travel Information

Galapagos Islands Travel Information
Visiting the Galapagos Islands is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The stark landscape of the islands will surprise you, as will the opportunities to capture close-up photographs of the wildlife.

Getting There

To get to the Galapagos Islands, you'll first fly to Ecuador, where you'll catch a plane from Quito to either the Santa Cruz or San Cristobal airport. Take a guided boat tour next to get the most out of your visit.

Wildlife Viewing

Get close to the giant Galapagos turtles and view huge iguanas. You can see flightless cormorants, Galapagos flamingos and penguins, masked boobies, and waved albatross.

Things to Do

Hike to Tortuga Bay on Isla Cruz. The beach will welcome you with its pure white sand and stunningly clear blue water. Visit the Los Gemelos sunken volcanic craters with a guide.

Accommodations

If you're backpacking, you can rent a simple room in Puerto Ayora. For more luxurious accommodations, try an oceanfront bed and breakfast.

What to Pack

Take plenty of sunscreen, sunglasses, good walking shoes and sandals, shorts, and sleeveless tops or T-shirts. Carry your camera and lots of film or extra memory cards.
