Standard processing times for U.S. passports range from four to six weeks. Expedited service is available for an additional fee. Expedited service takes between two and three weeks.
The cost of your passport will depend on whether you are applying for a traditional passport book, passport card or both. There is a $25 execution fee in addition to the following fees: passport book and card, $95; passport book only, $75; passport card, $20.
Your passport application must be accompanied by two 2-by-2-inch identical color photos with the distance between the chin and the top of the head being 1 to 1 3/8 inches. Uniforms, hats and headgear other than religious attire are not allowed. Sunglasses are also not allowed.
Proof of Citizenship
You must present proof of citizenship when applying for a passport. Proof of citizenship includes a previously issued passport, certified birth certificate, consular report of birth abroad, certification of birth, naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship.
Passports for Minors
Applications for passports for children under 16 years old must prove that the person making the application is the parent or legal guardian. Proof includes a birth certificate with both parents' names, consular report of birth abroad with both parents' names, adoption decree with both parents' names or a court order establishing custody or guardianship.
