Hike along a paved path that wanders along the edge of Big Bear Lake. It’s fun for the whole family. Visitors using the path can enjoy benches along the way and even a picnic area. There are no confusing side routes or trails along the way, although those wishing for more adventure can check out the Woodland Interpretive Trail on the north side of the highway.
Big Bear, CA - Hiking - Trail Length: 2.5
Hike along a lovely alpine stream to view Southern California’s only grove of quaking aspens. Lush perennial streams, alpine lakes, high peaks, tall coniferous pines, and even a grove of quaking aspens. This hike travels along the lower reaches of Fish Creek, climbing alongside a wonderful year-round stream to where it approaches Fish Creek Meadows.
Big Bear, CA - Hiking,Horseback Riding - Trail Length: 5
Hike to a view of Southern California’s tallest waterfall. The Forest Service does not recommend traveling beyond the overlook, although there is a use trail that clambers over boulders through the canyon to the base of the lower falls. Hikers going farther should use caution.
Yucaipa, CA - Hiking - Trail Length: 0.7
This hike meanders through shady tall pines, traversing high country near Wrightwood and commanding impressive views of the surrounding mountains and countryside.

Hike along a year-round creek to an amazing hot spring and enjoy the wonders of nature. Deep Creek Hot Springs is the premier hot springs experience in the San Bernardino Mountains. Weekends are commonly loaded with visitors, with weekdays generally not as busy. The hike is along a rather nondescript desert brush trail affectionately known as “Goat Trail” that drops 900 feet to Deep Creek.
Lake Arrowhead, CA - Hiking - Trail Length: 4.4
Learn about natural history, fire ecology, and forest wildflowers on this short, informative trail. The site was constructed from 1923 to 1931 by the Lake Arrowhead Women’s Club and is maintained by volunteers from the Rim of the World Interpretive Association. The area has gone through a couple of rough patches due to fire and disrepair, but none of that is evident today. Start at the kiosk to get an overview of important information on the bark beetle, flowering plants, activities, and a photo exhibit. From there follow the signs and numbered stops marked in the pamphlet.
Skyforest, CA - Hiking - Trail Length: 0.9
Hike along a beautiful old logging road to a magnificent ten acre mountain lake. Much of the route travels through lush and fertile woodlands. Pines grow tall here, and the flora of the forest is verdant and beautiful. All along the climb, hikers can expect vantage points with incredible views into the San Gorgonio Wilderness.

Hike up a lovely creek bed to a backcountry campground situated in a sylvan glen. Mile Middle Fork Lytle Creek Old/Grand Prix Fires of 2003 caused significant damage to the area, this hike hasn’t lost its charm.

Hike above and around an otherworldly formation known as Mormon Rocks. Great for photography, wildlife viewing, and historical appreciation, this short hike is an adventure for the whole family.

Be on the lookout for the extraordinary.

Traveling through lightly visited Saddleback Butte State Park, this hike traverses a lovely desert ecosystem and climbs to a commanding view of the Mojave Desert and Southern California mountains.

Hike through a forest wonderland to a splendid and romantic waterfall known as Heart Rock Falls for its distinctive heart-shaped basin. Wildflowers bloom in spring, making it the best time for a visit. The pools below the falls are perfect for swimming and in warmer times make for an inviting dip, but be careful on the slippery rocks. Return via the same trail. Heart Rock will end up becoming a favorite destination, and many who visit the falls return season after season.
Crestline, CA - Hiking - Trail Length: 2
Hike through magnificent forest, visit a giant tree, take in amazing views, enjoy seasonal Siberia Creek, and marvel at the large granite boulder formations. Siberia Creek is located in a beautiful, wonderfully wooded area on the south side of Big Bear. This means the forest is greener, more lush, and loaded with towering white fir and lodgepole and ponderosa pines.

Trek through a rocky streambed to one of Southern California’s tallest and most beautiful waterfalls. Although this area was heavily scarred in the Old/Grand Prix Fires of 2003, much of the beauty has survived.

Hike down from Rim of the World Highway and climb up Arrowhead Peak, overlooking the famous Arrowhead formation. This shadeless hike should be avoided on afternoons and in summer.

Hike up one of the most popular trails in the San Bernardino National Forest to a lovely fern-lined creek that looks and feels more like a rain forest than the arid reaches of San Bernardino County. The Vivian Creek Trail is a wonderful introduction to the San Gorgonio Wilderness and the most utilized route for hiking to the summit of Southern California’s highest peak, Mount San Gorgonio.

Hike two interpretive trails on opposite sides of the highway, enjoying the beauty of the forest while discovering intriguing facts about your surroundings and the natural history of the region. The plaques that line the trail describe various birds and trees that are common to the mountains while also showcasing the effects of time and change on the landscape. Hikers wishing to complete both loops should do so; information on the plaques is interesting and entertaining.
