Undoubtedly the most popular vacation spot in Québec, the beautiful Laurentides (Laurentians) region attracts countless visitors year-round. People have been heading “up north” for many years to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the countryside. The numerous lakes, mountains and forests provide the perfect setting for a variety of outdoor activities. The Laurentides contain the highest concentration of ski centres in North America, so it is no surprise that with the arrival of winter, skiing is the main attraction. The small villages nestled at the foot of the mountains are quaint and picturesque and well worth exploring. Studded with mountains, the Laurentides region boasts hundreds of kilometres of hiking trails. However, you should watch out for and steer clear of the many cross-country ski trails here, which are supposed to serve as hiking trails during summer, but are often poorly marked and poorly maintained. Furthermore, when the trees are in leaf, the views are often disappointing. It is therefore wise to stick to the various parks, outdoor recreation centres and resorts that offer good networks of hiking trails.
