The Lanaudière region spreads out immediately to the north of Montréal, from the St. Lawrence plain to the beginning of the Laurentian plateau. Except for the section that is a part of the metropolitan region, the Lanaudière region consists of calm lakes and rivers, farmland, wild forests and great open spaces. Lanaudière’s hiking infrastructure is developing nicely. Many hiking areas boast excellent networks of well-marked and well-maintained trails. Furthermore, the National Trail is increasingly present in the region, with over 150km of trails. This trail guide includes hiking trails at Parc Regional des Chutes Monte-a-Peine et des Dalles, Matawinie (Sentier de Matawinie - National Trail, Sentier Maskanaw, and Le Point de Vue), Parc Regional des Sept-Chutes de Saint-Zenon (Mont Brassard), Foret Ouareau - Grand Vallee de Chertsey Sector (Le Sommet and La Pinede and Mont 107), Mont Ouareau, Lac Lemieux - National Trail, Inter-Centre, The Saint-Donat Region (Les Oiseaux des Etangs, Mont Sourire, and Montagne Noire), The Commune de Berthier Trail (Sentier d'Interpretation de la Nature), Ile-des-Moulins, Sentiers de la Presqu'ile, Parc des Chutes-Dorwin, and Jardin Forestier.
