Directly in front of the ramp is a series of sandbars sculpted by narrow channels. During low tide the water is very shallow, but you can still paddle among the sand flats within the channels, which can be surprisingly deep. If you get out of your canoe or kayak to walk for a while on the sandbars, be careful not to step off a shallow shelf and fall into a trough that is over your head.
