The very nature of the “serious” ramp leading to the pond indicates this is going to be a very special body of water. Park in the spacious area and push your craft onto Leard’s Pond. As you turn immediately left, you could very well gasp at the sheer beauty of this tree-lined pond. You get the feeling that rather than being on PEI, a tamed and gardened island, you are far in the wilderness of deepest Canada. Paddle upriver to the fork and turn left. The pond becomes an enchanted scene of dead trees that stand as bleached sentinels guarding the welfare of the many ducks and birds that have settled at Leard’s Pond. The American black duck is most prominent. Birdwatchers will be very busy here.
