When we first encountered Scales Pond,we spotted several small boat trailers parked in the lot, indicating that there must be good fishing on the pond. My hunch was correct for there is plentiful trout and even salmon further upriver. No need, however, to be concerned about fast-moving fishing boats here. The boats I encountered were using quiet electric motors. Be on the lookout for wood and black ducks. All along the Dunk River, you will paddle over eight species of fish: brook and rainbow trout, Atlantic salmon, eel, smelt, gaspereau, stickleback, and white perch. Light tackle-casting from your canoe could be a lot of fun.The water is quiet as you proceed up Scales Pond until you spot a natural sculpture self-created by the root systems of a fallen tree.
