Shakespeare’s Stone town Stratford and Saint Marys Rail-Trail

Shakespeare’s Stone town: Stratford and Saint Marys (Rail-Trail) Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This ride is an excellent afternoon excursion that leaves you plenty of time to enjoy an evening show at the Stratford Festival. Beginning along the banks of the Avon River, the tour quickly leaves Stratford behind and follows Harmony Road through the lush rolling farmlands of Perth County.

It passes through the town of St. Marys, with its many architecturally superb stone buildings, before heading out of town on the former Grand Trunk Railway. The return route follows another peaceful country road through the hamlet of Avondale before joining the Stratford riverbank trail on its loop around Lake Victoria. Surface: Asphalt, some gravel and several kilometers of hard-packed rail bed. Bicycle Type: Touring/Hybrid/Mountain."

I started at dead end of wellington street in Stonestown. There were some forks in the trail with no indication of which path to take. I headed out of town on the old railroad tracks. Along the main trail there are some get-off trails that really test your strength and balance. The trail would be awesome for about 15 and then would be just a grown in path that mabee 1 or 2 bikers had been through already.

I suggest to really study the trail route and bring a map before you ride this trail. The St. Mary's section doesnt have any trail markers so its very easy to get lost if youre not familiar with the perth countryside.
