New York Central Fitness Trail Professional Review and Guide
"Pastoral eastern Ontario might seem like an unlikely place to find a trail named the “New York Central Fitness,” but between 1898 and 1957, this route was part of a railway system connecting Ottawa with New York. As air travel siphoned off passenger traffic and Northern Ontario lumber found other markets, the railway was abandoned. In 1979, the Township of Russell purchased some of this property and converted it for recreational purposes. The developed portion is currently 7.2 km (4.5 mi) long and links the villages of Embrun and Russell. Discussions are underway to extend the trail to the city of Ottawa."
