The islands south of the town of Rossport provide enough shelter for canoes to visit the innermost islands, or paddlers can leave the protection of the Rossport harbor and head for the outermost islands and the open lake. The varied topography and sand and cobble beaches make this an increasingly popular place for kayakers, but there is plenty of peace and quiet to be had. The Rossport Islands have the same look and feel as the Black Bay Peninsula and St. Ignace Islands but are much easier to reach. Battle Island is a good destination if the weather holds, and if the retired keeper is there, you may get to climb to the top for a great view of the Rossport area.
