The Ottawa River Pathway West is far less isolated than its eastern relation. The houses of the city extend almost to the water, cramming the National Capital Commission’s parkway and trail into a narrow coastal strip. Even so, it is a popular trail, all the way from the downtown to its end at Andrew Haydon Park. Any part of it is worthwhile, but the section between Britannia Beach and Westboro Beach offers one of the few chances you will have to hike between two supervised swimming locations and explore an adjoining conservation area.
