Long Point is aptly named, a long, narrow point that extends for over 20 miles east into Lake Erie. The south side of the point consists of a typical Lake Erie sand beach shoreline, but on the north side of the peninsula, there is a huge expanse of cattail marsh. The provincial park contains only a small area of the marsh, but most of the remaining marsh has remained undeveloped as Ontario Crown land or private land maintained as a hunting reserve. The expansive marsh is ideal habitat for waterfowl and wading birds and attracts huge flocks of migratory birds.
