A visit to Luther Marsh provides an extraordinarily rich and varied experience for bird-watchers and other naturalists. The area is a prime location for viewing butterflies, especially swallowtails, and a variety of plants, including asters, broad-lipped twayblades, dogwoods, irises, leatherleaf, golden rod, one-flowered pyrolas, pale laurels, pitcher plants, sensitive ferns, showy lady’s slippers, swamp birches, swamp valerians, sundews, water shields, water stargrasses and wild garlic. You also have a good chance of spotting beavers, porcupines, raccoons and white-tailed deer. Butlers garter snakes, coyotes, ermines, green snakes, leopard frogs, mink frogs, minks, muskrats, northern brown snakes, northern ribbon snakes, red foxes, turtles of all types, and weasels also live in the area. This trail guide includes Shoreline Trail, Bootlegger Trail, and Mallard Pond Trail.
