The Admiralty Island group is located just off shore from Gananoque and makes a good choice for a leisurely paddle and picnic. Camping is also available on several of the islands for those who want an overnight trip. These islands are so close together that it doesn’t take long to get a lot of island-hopping done. McDonald Island even has a real sand beach, a rarity in the islands (but watch out for poison ivy in the sandy areas). Many of the islands of the St. Lawrence were named by a British navy officer and commemorate people and ships of the War of 1812. The Admiralty group is named after other naval officers and lords of the admiralty.
