Gaspereau River

Gaspereau River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This route is an informal track used by fishers that follows a river up a narrow, steep-sided canyon. I loved it, and even though there are farms at the top of the slopes on both sides of the river, I found this always felt much more isolated than it actually is."

I headed for this trail about three o'clock on a warm, humid afternoon in the Annapolis Valley. The trail was easy to find and there was plenty of room in the parking lot. The entire route of the trail was shaded by the trees and although I sweated a lot I never felt hot like I did in the Valley. The sound of the traffic on the road was soon left behind and I was left to enjoy the sounds of the river and birds. I saw three Bald Eagles on the way in and not another human throughout the entire hike. At the turn-around there is a pleasant spot to sit and take a break before returning. The trail runs along the river or nearby through the entire hike. The only reason I gave it a four was because of a couple of bags of garbage dumped at the trail entrance (luckily I did not see them until the end, so my hike was not spoiled). This is a great hike that was not difficult and that I think would be suitable for families.
