The trail around Abraham Lake, deep in the heart of the Liscomb Game Sanctuary, was constructed because of its stands of mature hemlock and red spruce. In 2006, the Abraham Lake Nature Reserve, owned and managed by the Nature Conservancy of Canada, was extended protection under the Special Places Protection Act. Anyone walking on one of Nova Scotia’s beaches will invariably sight flocks of sparrow-sized birds apparently engaged in some sort of game with the ocean. Skittering rapidly across the sand, they advance or retreat up and down the beach just ahead of the leading edge of the waves.
