Old Branch Road Professional Review and Guide
"The Old Branch Road Trail, a project of the Cape Breton County Trails Association, became the first section of the Trans Canada Trail to officially be opened on Cape Breton Island. On July 3, 2001, the association held an official opening ceremony at the trailhead near North Sydney. More than 150 people were present to hear representatives from the community, the trail association, and local politicians talk about what the new trail means to the area. I think bicyclists will enjoy this trail. The improved gravel surface is wonderful for them. Families will find this an easy walk because it is nearly level throughout. ATV riders frequently use the trail, as do loggers working nearby. This is one of the few officially maintained trails anywhere that is also still in use as a road, although only local landowners may drive their vehicles on it."
