In 1889, the Nova Scotia Central Railway offered service between Bridgewater and Middleton, which continued until the line was abandoned by Canadian National in 1984. Since that time snowmobilers and ATVers have increasingly used this corridor. Although the walk from Nictaux Falls as far as Alpena Rapids is fairly long, this is a relatively easy hike and many people should be able to complete it.
