Hemlock and Hardwoods

Maitland Bridge, Nova Scotia

Hemlock and Hardwoods Professional Review and Guide

"Very little of the original forest in Kejimkujik survived the logging boom of the 1800s, but isolated groves of old-growth eastern hemlock can still be found, some of them as old as three hundred years. A significant stand of these graceful softwoods is located along the northern edge of Big Dam Lake. A trail has been created to make these trees available to nature hikers, and it offers the most spectacular forest walk in the province. Relatively short, level, and well maintained, this trail is excellent for families and people of most fitness levels."
