This ride is located outside Ingonish, on the east shore of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. This ride is a 5.7-mile out-and-back jaunt. A nice feature for families or groups involving riders of mixed ability levels is that the ride can easily be shortened by simply turning around at any point. For advanced or intermediate level riders seeking a little more adventure, the ride can also be lengthened for a short distance. Beyond the usual turnaround at a small shelter named the "Gold Mine," a neglected portion of the old road continues into the valley. Years of erosion due to the ravages of heavy runoff in the spring have caused the trail conditions to deteriorate dramatically. Beyond a certain point, the trail simply becomes unsuitable for riders.
