The trail is located west of Halifax, near St. Margaret's Bay. The Lakes Loop is a long ride that passes through a variety of terrain, including densely wooded forests and lake areas, clear-cuts, and strip malls. The trails follow bone-rattling old roads, hilly transmission lines, and graded gravel roads. There are views of small lakes throughout the ride, an a panoramic view out to the ocean from a high point beneath a transmission line. Frequent climbing and technical terrain make this a challenging excursion that is best suited to intermediate riders with a good fitness level.
