River Denys Mountain is in Glendale, approximately 15.5 miles northeast of the Canso Causeway, on Highway 105. The ride up River Denys Mountain is a pleasant and rewarding one, offering access to an old community church, as well as to a fire tower that provides panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, including views of Bras d'Or Lake and the Nova Scotia mainland. This 12-mile loop is technically easy for the most part, following graded gravel roads and doubletrack trails. The ride does conclude over slightly more difficult terrain, with a short descent along a rough cart track that has suffered some damage due to flooding. You will need less than half a day to complete this ride, allowing you plenty of time to wander around the Saint Margaret of Scotland Church that now stands in solitary testament to the community that once existed here. From the church, your ride can continue as a pilgrimage to the fire tower near River Denys Mountain.
