Meat Cove

Meat Cove Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"If Nova Scotia has any community that looks like an alpine village, it is Meat Cove. Situated near the extreme northern tip of Cape Breton Island, the road literally ends here, the dirt track from Bay St. Lawrence hugging steep hillsides above sheer coastal cliffs until it drops into the deep ravine carved by Meat Cove Brook. This appears to be a trail at the end of the earth, and it is as remote as it seems."

Hiked two trails today: Meat Cove Mountain : accessed just up the road (before the tea house & Meat Cove Lodge). Fantastic hike, a bit steep in sections but with roped areas to assist. What a view from the top of the ridge - you can walk kilometres along the ridge. Valley and river below, neighbouring mountains, cliffs and a view to the ocean. Well worth the drive itself. 45 mins - 1 hour up. Grassi Point: A hike that takes you down to the edge of the cliff before it plunges into the ocean. Some elevation to contend with but short 20 mins out and 15 back.
