The trail is located in the vicinity of St. John's, the trailhead is just minutes outside downtown. The ride descends from the trailhead to the community of Petty Harbor along a 10-mile road ideal for mountain biking. On your journey you will pass through desolate barrens, past inland lakes and rocky hillsides, to the dramatic cliffs around the harbor. The old road presents a combination of loose, chunky gravel, exposed bedrock, and small boulders that fat tires can roll over with some skillful maneuvering. The ride is mostly intermediate with some advanced sections where the trail slopes steeply around bends. The return trip, a steady climb for the most of the way, requires the strength and endurance of moderate conditioning.

This trail is great if you want to burn a couple of hours. The start encourages a quick ride and then towards the middle it gets a bit technical. The views at the end are pretty astounding as you race down the hill to over look Petty Harbor. if you veer left onto a little rocky out crop you can sit and reflect on how beautiful St. Johns really is as the cold ocean air hits your face. Highly recommended for a relaxing ride.
