This ride is located near Goulds, on the southeast shore of St. John's city limits. The ride down to shoal Bay is a popular one, and for good reason. Within relatively close proximity to St. John's, the Shoal Bay trail offers a quick escape to a sheltered, remote cove on the coast. The trail meanders along a rocky old road and then quickly drops through the woods to emerge, abruptly, at a beautiful spot overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. From the grassy knolls to flat rocks over which crashing surf cascades, there are numerous places to relax and enjoy the salt air once you reach the water. Local riders follow this rugged, 9-mile out-and-back trail in the winter as well as in the summer.
