This trail is located in Terra Nova National Park between Gander and Clarenville on the Trans-Canada Highway. Dunphy's Pond is the largest lake in Terra Nova National Park, and this ride follows one of the few multi-use trails open to riders visiting the park. The trail follows a former access road that creates a 6-mile out-and-back ride that provides easy access road that creates a 6-mile out-and-back ride that provides easy access to the pond and a number of backcountry campsites nearby. Although there is some steady climbing on the way out, this ride is aerobically and technically suitable for all levels. Families and groups of riders will discover this to be an ideal excursion, since the trail is easy to follow and wide enough for two people to ride abreast. Furthermore, Dunphy's Pond is a picturesque site at which to enjoy a picnic lunch or a refreshing swim. For riders seeking more of an adventure, we recommend that you use this trail to begin an overnight trip to the pond and back. Registration is necessary for the use of the campsites, and permits can be obtained at the Newman sound Campground Kiosk or the Marine Interpretation Center.
