Gander is located in central Newfoundland, less than 50 miles west of Terra Nova National Park, and roughly the same distance east of Grand Falls. The ride begins on the trail in downtown Gander and heads east, through a site that was once developed as a military settlement, out to Deadman's Pond. Much of the ride passes through an area designated as the Thomas Howe Demonstration Forest, and the landscape is a combination of forest and open bog. The trail is wide and well-maintained, and provides an easy surface to ride along. There are no significant hills throughout the length of the trail, which makes a perfect outing for families or large groups.
