Keeping its residents active has always been a priority for Dieppe. The town was one of the original “Participation” communities. Today, the city is working to implement a linear park system that will connect every subdivision, workplace, school, and institution with a trail network that can be used as an alternative transportation system. Implementing this bold vision will be difficult, especially in the established areas where easements will have to be obtained for the trails. However, land for trails is being set aside as new subdivisions are developed, and a part of the trail network has already been built. All of the subdivisions near the Trans Canada Trail have connections to the trail, and residents are already starting to use it to bike or walk to work. With just one lifestyle change, residents are saving the environment, improving their health, and saving themselves money, as well as reconnecting to nature and to fellow travelers on the trail.
