The trail follows an old path established in the early 1900s by Admiral Spruance. Spruance, an ardent sportsman from Connecticut, stayed at the Nictau game and fishing camps. A spectacular view from the peak of Mount Sagamook of Nictau Lake and adjacent mountain ranges makes this demanding hike worthwhile. The old Indian name Sagamook refers to the reflections in the water of Nictau Lake, which are nearly perfect on a clear day. Trail Condition: rocky and rooty.
