Doc English Bluff, named after one Benjamin Franklin "Doc" English, a pioneer gold prospector/trader who settled in the area, is located on the Deer Ranch Wildlife Reserve, which is linked to the Junction Sheep Range Wildlife Reserve to the southwest. As a sign at the entrance to Moon Road indicates, the bluff itself is an ecological reserve protecting unique flora, and also, white-throated swifts and golden eagles, which are rarely seen in the Cariboo-Chilcotin. The hike to the top takes less than 15 minutes, but the trail is steep, close to the cliff edge on top, and requires caution. From the top of the bluff there are magnificent views of the Fraser River, 330 m below, and the ranchlands on the benches opposite. And there is an added bonus- caves! Like the climb up, these are short and almost vertical.
