This trip to Bug Lake on the slopes below Sun Peak is the east end of the JCWild Trail, which starts in Sims Creek and connects to the Loquilts Trail descending into Princess Louisa Inlet. The trail is in the southwest corner of the proposed Stoltmann National Park. With time and energy you can hike above the lake, but Sun Peak is another 820 m (2700 ft) higher and an extra 10 km (6.2 mi) return. Sims Creek has also been the scene of controversy between loggers and environmentalists. The Magic Grove of western red cedars was cut in 1998, including one tree more than 800 years old.
