This walk takes you downhill nearly all the way from Simon Fraser University on the summit of Burnaby Mountain to end at the bus terminal in Lougheed Mall, the busy Burnaby shopping centre. Of some interest is the mountaintop location from which you set out, the start, incidentally, of the 1967 Centennial Trail, so that you retrace a part of the route as you go east from the campus centre. Savour, too, the architecture of Arthur Erickson’s creation until, at its Administration Centre, you veer left across a parking lot to East Campus Road, on which you continue downhill to University Drive.

The spawning salmon have returned. See them along the MetroVancouver trail, in Stoney Creek Park, or in the pool where Stoney Creek goes under Government Road. Every weekend from October to December, the Stoney Creek Environment Committee counts the spawning salmon. They start at 9:30 from Burnaby Environmental Centre, 2730 Beaverbrook Crescent, on the north end of the Stoney Creek Community School grounds. Training is provided.
