For a change of scene from mountain and forest, try this pastoral walk in the Greater Vancouver Regional District’s Campbell Valley Park, south of Langley. Suitable for an active family, the route suggested takes you from the valley floor to open pasture, through woodland and creekside meadows. On the way, you visit the restored Rowlatt farmstead, complete with old farm machinery and rebuilt barn. The park trails can be used all year, though in spring quiet Little Campbell River sometimes floods the valley bottom, making the interesting boardwalk sections impassable. The region provides a habitat for deer, coyote, rabbits and owls, as well as waterfowl and songbirds.
