This figure-eight double loop circles through impressive examples of western red cedar, western hemlock, and amabilis fir, forming what scientists call the climax rain forest community. Carpeted in thick layers of hanging moss, this old-growth forest supports a diversity of plants and animals, including trees dating back hundreds of years. Watch for songbirds in the upper canopy and salmon spawning in Sandhill Creek. Interpretive signs on both trails provide descriptions of old-growth forest cycles (Loop A) and forest structure and inhabitants (Loop B).
