Hot Springs Cove

Hot Springs Cove Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A popular boardwalk stroll to tidal hot pools in a marine park. Swimwear advised. Water issues from bedrock at 124 degrees F/51 degrees C, and eventually drains into a chain of tidal pools the size of bathtubs. Icy ocean waves swirl through the pools with the incoming tide, which dilutes the scalding water to a more comfortable temperature.

The uppermost pool offers a great view of the sea. Magnificent Hot Springs Cove has become quite a tourist attraction in recent years. Access is no longer a major obstacle, and in the prime summer months, July through September, as many as one hundred people or more may flock to the springs in a single day. The best odds of getting a quiet soak would be on weekdays or during the off-season."

The hotsprings are very hard to find because there are no signs for any of the logging roads. Also the last portion on Clear Creek Road is more like 10km or 15km not 6km. From Harrison lake the trip was 4 hours. Our new 4x4 truck couldn't quite make it all the way to the springs because of a snow avalanche so we hitched a ride on some atvs to go the rest of the way. I am a big fan of adventures like this and that's why I gave the trail 5 stars. The hotsprings were wonderful and really really hot! The difficulty of the road was definitly not "easy" as the guide implied. Tips for future travellers: Clear Creek road is right beside the huge sand dunes. Bring lots of food because it is a long trip. The last portion of the road may be washed away due to weather conditions so you may have to walk, but don't give up, It is all worth it :)
